Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra): Licorice root supports endurance, nourishes adrenal glands, reduces cholesterol, increases blood pressure, besides giving the tea a sweet taste, satisfying the immediate needs when drunk at the usual sweet craving times.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): Dandelion is a powerful herb used to activate and tonify the digestive system, flush the kidneys and rinse the liver. Dandelion leaf works as a choloretic, that increases the volume of secretion of bile from the liver as well as the amount of solids secreted. Within the kidneys, it also works as a diuretic.
Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre): Gymnema is a powerful blood sugar regulating herb, reducing blood sugar levels, it’s indian name translates as ‘destroyer of sugar’. Gymnema blocks the absorption of sugar in the intestines and helps reduce cravings for sugar. It encourages the body to transform more sugar into available energy and deposit less in fat stores. Possibly for this reason it is used as a herbal weight loss remedy. Gymnema also is a slight diuretic and reduces cholesterol.
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum): Fenugreek is most used in many cultures for convalescence – treating patients back to health and strength. Fenugreek has been used for kidney complaints in traditional Chinese medicine for at least 1000 years. Fenugreek is highly effective in it’s ability to reduce excess blood cholesterol and to improve blood sugar levels.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum, C. cassia): Cinnamon is used in the treatment of diabetes for it’s blood sugar regulating function. It improves insulin sensitivity, seems to mimic the activity of insulin, stimulating glucose metabolism, improves insulin signaling pathways and alternative pathways that cause increased cellular glucose uptake. Cinnamon is also anti-fungal and used to treat candida symptoms.
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum L.): Milk thistle, also known as St. Mary’s Thistle, supports the liver and gallbladder, being used for such diseases as hepatitis, cirrhosis, gallstones and jaundice. It promotes the flow of bile, is known as a liver protector, both regenerating damaged liver cells and protecting them from a variety of toxins.
One heaped teaspoon (2g) per cup of boiling water. Steep covered for 10-20mins. Drink 1-2 cup daily for maintenance, spread morning and afternoon or evening or when sweet cravings occur.
Diabetics drink 2-4 cups daily.
