We're delighted that the wonderful book BOUNTY: Cooking with vegetables has been announced as a finalist in the International Association of Culinary Professionals book awards in New York! Written by Garden to Table co-founder and chairperson Catherine Bell, Bounty is a beautifully designed and photographed book all about cooking and growing vegetables. More than a recipe book, each chapter focuses on a specific vegetable group and contains a plethora of reliable hints and tips for growing vegetables at home. There are 80 inspired, approachable and delicious recipes, each one photographed and ranging from snacks and starters to sides, salads, main dishes and even some baking. 

Scattered throughout are practical and encouraging facts and suggestions aimed at making growing and cooking both easy and fun plus you’ll find lots of lovely images of the schools along with quotes from some of Garden to Table's heroes. Ambassadors Al Brown, Niki Bezzant and Dan Mackay also generously share their thoughts and wisdom.

Catherine Bell / Garden To Table Trust

Catherine is co-founder and chair of the Garden to Table Trust. She is also a cook, food writer, business woman and mother and her many years in the food world have been largely spent encouraging and enthusing people to cook and enjoy good food. She believes cooking should be a pleasure rather than a chore and that keeping it simple is the key - use fresh seasonal ingredients to prepare fresh, simple dishes at home and enjoy them around a table with others. This book, written, published and funded by Catherine is another way she can ensure more children in New Zealand have the opportunity to learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share good food. All profits will be donated to Garden to Table.

At its base, Garden to Table Trust is a food education program for children at primary and intermediate school which teaches them to grow, harvest, cook and share good food at school while linking closely with the curriculum. Lessons in both a large edible garden in the school grounds and in a home-style kitchen have a profoundly positive impact on learning for many children. For some, it is what makes them want to go to school! When children are taught to grow food and cook it, they are gifted a sustainable and healthy future – surely this is a right not a privilege.
