Traditional tampons are made from a blend of bleached cotton and/or synthetic products, such as rayon, viscose and plastic that remain in the environment for 500 years, releasing toxins and endangering marine life. Change to Green tampons are all natural, so they biodegrade within five years, quickly becoming useful material for the natural environment again.

Wrapping: PE (plastic) foil to protect the tampon from humidity. That\'s why we don\'t offer twist-off wrapping: it\'s perforated. Change to Green aims for biodegradable wrapping at a later stage.
Bleaching: Change to Green uses an oxygen bleaching process from hydrogen peroxide. This is the safest process for the environment as it does not release toxins. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) quickly breaks down into pure water (H2O) and oxygen (O2), so it is easily biodegradable. This water and oxygen process is used to destroy any bacteria in the cotton, resulting in the purification and whitening of the raw material.

Claudia and Ralph founded Change to Green in the Bay of Plenty in 2013, believing small choices can result in big changes.They wanted to create an affordable organic choice in the feminine hygiene sector and keep things as local as possible.

Everything that can be done locally is made right here in New Zealand – like the recycled cardboard packaging and the sewing of the organic cotton bags. What can’t be done locally is sourced in an ethical supply chain, directly from the producer.
