Navi, The Egg Man, along with his family specialise in producing “The Best Eggs in Town”.
They define free-range as being able to offer their hens the very best of living conditions and this enables them to produce the best eggs. The key to this is allowing the hens to roam free in paddocks all year round, in a flock that is intentionally understocked. Navi and his family are based in Hororata and have a 60-acre block.
They have a few hundred chooks in 10-acre paddocks where they are open to fresh pasture 24x7. These spray-free pastures are filled with bugs, worms and seeds they can forage themselves, but they have also access to additional feed at all times (a balanced diet of all-natural different grains and minerals). The hens roost in their houses at night time and lay egg in the mornings when they are collected and packaged daily and then delivered to Ooooby to ensure optimal freshness.
The hens are given much more than double the land that is required in the regulations for free-range eggs, and the flock sizes are kept small which leads to high-quality eggs. The chicken sheds are solar powered for their lights only and don’t have any temperature control system so the hens can remain in an all-natural environment.

Navi's young family comes from a farming background and after seeing a demand for quality free-range eggs, they had the chance to take over The Egg Man from Mark who had been our supplier since Ooooby Christchurch was founded.
