This sauerkraut is made with cabbage and daikon (Japanese radish), and strongly infused with turmeric and chilli. Yes, it's a very spicy one! And the turmeric makes it a brilliant, beautiful yellow.

The Urban Monk

The Urban Monk’s mission is to ‘serve up nourishment.’ They offer the only certified organic krauts made in New Zealand.  The man behind The Urban Monk, Matt Morris, is a leader of the local food resilience movement in Canterbury, and has been involved in the local and national organic movement since the late 1990s. Matt was lucky to be able to start his food-making journey down at the very special Waihi Bush Organic Farm near Geraldine, but has since moved the kitchen to South New Brighton. In 2017, The Urban Monk gained full organic certification with Organic Farm NZ. They are committed to producing New Zealand’s premium sauerkraut, and they only use fully certified organic ingredients. They produce also a wild fermented product, which means no culture starter additives. They like doing things the old fashioned way: simple, low-tech, high quality, maximum love.
