Organic Steel-cut Oats

Out of stock

Organic oats grown and milled in South Canterbury.  Steel-cut oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into pieces. They are commonly used in Scotland to make a hearty porridge with a delicious chunky texture. These oats provide a filling wholegrain breakfast!

Please note these oats have not been heat treated (stabilised) so are best consumed over a short time or stored in the fridge or freezer because of the high natural oil content.

New Zealand Biograins

New Zealand Biograins is located in the Mid Canterbury town of Ashburton. Mary and Harry and their team supply and process organically grown grains, flours, pulses, nuts, stock food and other organic products.

Their philosophy is very simple. They believe the way ingredients are produced, selected and processed is of the utmost importance for the health and well being of agricultural production, the environment, animals and of course humans.

Store in the fridge or freezer if not using within a 2 month period.

Bring 3 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt to a boil then add 1 cup Steel-cut Oats.
Reduce heat to a low simmer. Cook 10 - 20 minutes (depending on how chewy you like your porridge). Stir occasionally.
Remove from heat and let stand covered for a couple of minutes. Makes about 3 cups.

Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 1 week and reheated for breakfast.
